Youth Creating Change

Youth Creating Change (YCC) wants you to be involved in your life by helping you become a leader, not a follower. Don’t you want to know how to get along better with your parents, teachers, counselors, and other adults? Do you want to become more powerful, confident and know your stuff? Then this is where you want to be.

What kinds of things will you do at YCC?

• Use your voice: we want to hear your thoughts, so hook up with other kids your age, 13 – 17, that are also movers and shakers in their community.
• Tell your story: what is it like at your school? How do you handle the mean girls or the bullies? What’s it like to be you?
• Have fun: hang out with us, we’ll bring snacks, activities, and we’ll have a good time. We are a group of friends and we like you for you.
• Problem solve: we’ll give you tips and support to handle the blues, the hormones and the acne! Being a teen can be hard but if you surround yourself with positive people (that’s us), then you’ll be just fine.
• Meet other peeps: you’ll meet other kids from Maricopa County and you’ll become a member of Youth MOVE National.

So who are we?

At YCC we are a mixed (diverse) group of teens who want to:

• unite the voices and causes of youth
• raise awareness of youth issues (bullying, teen mothers, gangs, miscommunication with parents)
• we look out for you (advocate) and want to teach you about the mental health system and other systems that impact you
• we want to empower you to become an equal partner in these systems

Some of the things we’ll talk about:

• Illegal immigration (SB 1070)
• Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) community
• Getting kids access to medical insurance
• Cleaning up graffiti in Arizona
• Educating society about us and educating ourselves about society
• Helping each other without fighting (Anti-Bullying)
• Addressing ignorance, stereotyping, prejudice and bias
• Scholarships and the college admission process
• How to keep drugs out our schools
